Best Time to Visit Morocco: A Month-by-Month Guide

Published August 27, 2026 by Morocco Amazing Tours

The best overall time to visit Morocco is March–May and September–November, when temperatures across the Imperial Cities, Atlas Mountains and Sahara are all comfortable at once. Summer (June–August) is very hot inland and in the desert but pleasant on the coast; winter (December–February) is mild in the cities but cold at night in the mountains and desert.

Spring (March–May)

Widely considered Morocco's best season — wildflowers in the Atlas foothills, comfortable 20–28°C days in Marrakech and Fes, and Sahara nights that are cool rather than freezing. This is also when we route the most travelers through all four of our itineraries.

Summer (June–August)

Inland cities like Marrakech and Fes regularly hit 38–42°C, and the Sahara can exceed 45°C at midday — genuinely hot, though mornings, evenings and the coast (Essaouira in particular) stay pleasant. If summer is your only available window, lean the itinerary toward coastal time and plan desert activities around sunrise/sunset, which is how our routes are structured regardless of season.

Autumn (September–November)

Our other favorite window — temperatures ease back into the comfortable range by mid-September, harvest season adds some nice roadside stops in the Ziz Valley and Dades Valley, and crowds are noticeably lighter than spring at the same sites.

Winter (December–February)

Cities stay mild during the day (15–20°C in Marrakech), but the Atlas Mountains see genuine snow at altitude, and Sahara nights regularly approach freezing. It's also Morocco's quietest tourist season, with fewer crowds at Volubilis, Fes's medina and Ait Benhaddou, and clear winter skies make for some of the year's best stargazing in the desert.

What About Ramadan?

Ramadan's dates shift each year on the lunar calendar; travel is entirely possible during it, but expect reduced restaurant hours during the day and a livelier atmosphere after sunset. If your dates overlap, ask us and we'll adjust meal planning and timing accordingly.

Choosing Your Dates

If you have flexibility, aim for April, May, October or November. If you don't, every one of our itineraries — from the 8 day tour up — is built to work well regardless of season, with activities timed around each location's best hours of the day.
