Planning a Morocco Tour From the United States: Flights, Visas and Timing

Published August 27, 2026 by Morocco Amazing Tours

US citizens don't need a visa for Morocco (tourist stays up to 90 days), direct flights run from New York (JFK) and a few other hubs to Casablanca in around 7–8 hours, and the time difference is minimal — Morocco sits close to US Eastern time for most of the year, which makes jet lag a non-issue compared to trips to Asia or even much of Europe.

Getting There

Royal Air Maroc runs direct flights from New York JFK to Casablanca; travelers from other US cities typically connect through a European hub (Paris, Madrid, London) or JFK itself. Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport is where nearly all our itineraries begin, with your private driver meeting you at arrivals.

Visa and Entry

No advance visa is required for US passport holders visiting as tourists for up to 90 days — just a passport valid 6+ months beyond your entry date. See our full visa requirements guide for the complete details.

Timing a Trip From the US

Morocco's best months (April–May, October–November) line up conveniently with shoulder seasons for US travel generally, meaning fewer competing demands on vacation time around major US holidays. Thanksgiving and the December holidays are popular windows for US travelers specifically because Morocco stays mild through early winter while much of the US turns cold.

How Long to Plan For

Given the flight time and jet lag involved, we'd generally steer US travelers toward 11 days or more to make the trans-Atlantic flight worthwhile — see our full itinerary length guide, though our 8 day tour works well too if a week is genuinely all you have.

Currency and Practical Notes

US dollars aren't used directly in Morocco — you'll exchange for dirhams on arrival; see our currency guide for specifics. US credit and debit cards work at most ATMs and larger hotels/restaurants without issue.

Getting Started

Our 11 day tour is our most popular length for US travelers making the trip worthwhile with the flight time involved — reach out and we'll help plan dates around your flights.
