Best Beaches and Coastal Towns to Add to a Morocco Itinerary

Morocco's coast isn't a Caribbean-style beach destination — Atlantic water here runs cool year-round and the appeal is more about atmosphere and towns than lounging — but Essaouira, Agadir and the stretch around El Jadida each offer a genuinely worthwhile coastal add-on to a broader itinerary.

Essaouira

Less about swimming (the water is genuinely cold and the wind is strong, which is why it's a windsurfing hub rather than a swimming beach) and more about the wide sandy beach itself as a place to walk, the sea air, and the fortified town behind it. The best coastal stop on a first Morocco trip for atmosphere over swimming.

Agadir

Morocco's most developed beach resort city, with a long, calmer, more swimmable stretch of sand and a modern promenade — a genuinely different, more conventional beach-holiday feel than Essaouira's medina-and-ramparts atmosphere, and a natural stop between Taroudant and Essaouira on longer southern routes.

El Jadida

Less about the beach itself and more about the Portuguese fortress town behind it, covered in our El Jadida guide — worth a stop for the cistern and citadel more than swimming.

Setting Expectations

If a genuine beach holiday (warm water, resort infrastructure) is the priority, Morocco's Atlantic coast isn't quite that — the Mediterranean towns further north (Al Hoceima, Saïdia) come closer but aren't part of our standard routes. What Morocco's coast does very well is atmosphere: fortified towns, fresh seafood, sea air as a contrast to the desert and mountains.
